$100,000 saved by removing this one component from PCB.
When designing for large scale production every cent counts.
There was a smart watch company that made 10 million units in one production run. They found they can remove a capacitor costing 1 cent from the bom. The result they saved $100,000 just by removing one extra component. Adding capacitors is usually taken for granted, if the app note says the chip needs it, they make it on the final product. Each design is different and you must do proper analysis and check if you really need the capacitors in the reference design.
Think hard before adding just another capacitor, it make a bigger impact than you think.
